Water Line Break In Pleasant Hill Opens Sinkhole, Flooding Contra Costa Blvd

PLEASANT HILL (CBS SF) -- A water line break in Pleasant Hill Friday night caused a sinkhole and the closure Saturday morning of Contra Costa Boulevard.

On Friday at 9:04 p.m., the Pleasant Hill Police Department responded to reports of flooding in the area of Contra Costa Boulevard between Woodsworth and Gregory lanes.

A water line failed beneath the roadway surface of the southbound lanes and caused water to escape through the cracks in the street, flooding the roadway and nearby business properties, police said.

The continuous water flow also caused a large sinkhole to develop.

As of 4 a.m., the water in the area has been shut off, and the Contra Costa Water District was responding to the scene to begin repairs.

The repairs will likely take 24 hours and the roadway will likely remain closed through Sunday.
