Listen To Metallica's Debut Single 'Hardwired' From New Album

By Radio.com Staff

(RADIO.COM) – Metallica have announced a new single titled "Hardwired." The band surprised fans Thursday by releasing the hard charging track, which clocks in at just over three minutes.

The song is the lead single from the band's new album Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, which will be released on November 18th. During an interview today, Lars Ulrich explained the new release will be a two-disc set with 80 minutes of music produced by Greg Fidelman, James Hetfield and Ulrich.

The single's sound harkens back to their early thrash metal roots, circa their 1983 debut album, Kill 'Em All. In old-school Metallica form, the song introduces itself for 40 seconds before the lyrics kick in. And in case you were worried that frontman James Hetfield was mellowing out these days, here's the opening lyrics: "In the name if desperation/In the name of wretched pain/In the name of all creation/Gone Insane/We're so f—–d/S— out of luck/Hardwired to self-destruct!!!"

The low-fi looking music video sees the band performing the song in a dark room, punctuated by a strobe light. Check out the latest from Metallica plus the single and cover artwork below.

Warning: Explicit Lyrics.
