San Francisco Police Seek Suspect In Vicious Attack Caught On Camera

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Police in San Francisco are asking for the public's help finding the suspect in a vicious unprovoked attack on a woman that was captured by a surveillance camera last weekend.

According to authorities, on Saturday, August 20, at approximately 7:45 p.m., the female victim was walking in Lafayette Park when she was approached by the suspect. The victim did not speak to the suspect during the encounter.

Moments later, the suspect stopped the victim on the 2000 block of Washington Street and attacked her.

In the surveillance video, the victim is seen walking into frame and looking over her right shoulder. The suspect is seen jogging up to the victim and briefly touching her shoulder before viciously punching her in the face several times.

The victim can be seen falling to the ground. She holds her arms over her face as the assailant continues to punch her in the head and face. At one point, the suspect pins the woman down with his knee planted in her back as he continues to assault the victim.

The attack goes on for a full 30 seconds before the suspect stops hitting the victim, but continues to hold her down with a knee in her back for several moments before finally standing up and walking away.

The suspect fled east on Washington Street before heading south on Gough Street.

The attack broke the victim's nose in several places, requiring surgery.

The suspect is described as a white male, possibly homeless, approximately 40 to 50 years old with brown hair, average build andwearing a dark green zip-up sweater or sweatshirt and jeans.
