Woman Shot In The Chest At Antioch Shopping Mall

ANTIOCH (CBS SF) -- A 20-year-old woman was injured in a shooting at an Antioch shopping mall on Friday afternoon, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a fight inside the Somersville Towne Center around 4:11 p.m.

While on their way to the mall, officers received a report of shots fired. As officers approached the mall, they made contact with a vehicle speeding away from the area.

Inside the car, officers found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her chest, according to Antioch police.

Medics treated the woman at the scene and then transported her to a hospital, where she remains in stable condition, police said.

The shooting remains under investigation and the shooter has not been identified. Officers said no other injuries were reported and that they believe the shooting was an isolated incident.

While at the mall, police also responded to a report of a theft in which at least one person allegedly mentioned having a gun. Officers stopped a vehicle leaving the parking lot suspected in that case, and detained three females.

While the stolen property was recovered, no weapon was located, according to Antioch police.

Officers said the mention of a gun appears to have been unfounded and that the shooting does not appear to be related to the theft case.
