Billy Goat Makes Appearance At Giants-Cubs Game

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Looking for a little extra magic before Tuesday’s Game 4 of the NL Division Series Game, a San Francisco Giants fan showed up at AT&T Park with a goat in tow looking to conger up a bit of the of Curse of The Billy Goat mojo on the visiting Chicago Cubs.

The curse may be among the most famous sports legends and the acronym G.O.A.T. has since been associated with the phrase — “Greatest Of All Time.”

It all began back in 1945 when famed Chicago Billy Goat Tavern owner Billy Sianis brought his pet goat ‘Murphy’ to the Chicago Cubs-Detroit Tigers World Series game as a means of promotion. But stadium officials would not go along with his plan and told Sianis the goat had to go.

The urban legend says Sianis — a Greek immigrant — laid a powerful hex on the Cubs allegedly declaring — “Them Cubs, they ain’t gonna win no more.”

The Cubs let a 2 games to 1 lead slip away and lost the Series. They have not returned to the Series since.
