Man Found Dead San Jose Lowe's Parking Lot

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- San Jose's homicide rate continued at a record pace late Monday night when a man was found slain in the parking lot of a Lowe's home improvement store, authorities said.

The slaying was San Jose's 38th homicide of the year -- matching the 2013 total and on pace to climb to its highest number since at least 2002. There were 30 homicides in 2015, 32 in 2014 and 38 in 2013. The highest number of homicides in the city since 2002 was 39 in 2011.

Officer Albert Morales said officers and emergency personnel were called at 10:37 p.m. to the Lowe's parking lot in the 700 block of Ridder Park Drive across the street from the previous headquarters of the San Jose Mercury News, after a passerby found an unresponsive man lying next to a vehicle.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and he had visible injuries suggesting he was a homicide victim.

The victim's identity and the circumstances of the killing were not immediately clear early Tuesday. Police did not report any prior disturbance calls in the area prior to the discovery of the victim.
