21-Year-Old Man Shot In San Francisco's Bayview District

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A 21-year-old man injured in a shooting in San Francisco Friday morning drove up to the door of the Bayview Police Station to tell officers he had been shot, police said.

The shooting was reported at about 10:30 a.m. when the victim drove his car onto the sidewalk in front of the police station at 201 Williams Ave. to say he had been shot in the upper torso, police spokesman Officer Carlos Manfredi said.

He was taken by medics to San Francisco General Hospital. Police initially said his injuries were considered life-threatening, but Manfredi said he is now expected to survive.

Police learned the shooting happened at Third Street and Fitzgerald Avenue.

Third Street was blocked during the investigation into the shooting and the lobby of the police station was also closed, according to police.

The shots were allegedly fired from a dark sedan with three suspects inside. A detailed description of the suspects and vehicle was not immediately available, Manfredi said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call the Police Department's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or to send a tip by text message to TIP411 with "SFPD" in the message.
