CHP Officer Shoots Suspect In San Francisco Oceanview District
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A California Highway Patrol officer shot and wounded a suspect following a chase that began in Redwood City and ended in a crash in San Francisco.
The unidentified suspect was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The CHP officer was also injured during the incident - his injuries were not life-threatening, but it was not clear whether the injuries were from the shooting or the crash.
The officer was working on a car theft task force in Redwood City Tuesday afternoon when he saw a suspected stolen car. The driver fled and led officers on a chase all the way to the Oceanview District in San Francisco.
The crash involved three vehicles and happened in the area of Capitol Ave. and Montana St. in the city's Oceanview neighborhood.
The Twitter account for the department's Taraval Station posted about the incident shortly before 4 p.m.
San Francisco police said shortly after 4:20 p.m. that they were responding to an officer-involved shooting involving an outside agency.
Video from Chopper 5 showed a half a dozen SFPD units on the scene along with at least three motorcycle officers. An area of Capitol Avenue appeared to be cordoned off by police tape. Bullet holes were visible in one of the vehicles that was inside the area cordoned off by officers.
Redwood City CHP officials said one of their officers was injured but they declined to release further information about the incident.
