Loretta Lynn Smokes Weed For The First Time

By Robyn Collins

(RADIO.COM) – Loretta Lynn has smoked marijuana for the first time, at age 84. The country icon was prescribed the drug from her doctor, but didn't enjoy the experience.

"I got glaucoma and they gave me one of these cigarettes," she told People. "I took one smoke off of it and it hit me right here in the chest. I like to have died! Glaucoma is just going to have to take over."

When asked about country star Willie Nelson, an active proponent of smoking marijuana, Lynn said, "He's one of the greatest people in the whole world. I know he smokes pot, but my goodness, there's a lot people doing a lot worse then smoking pot!"

Lynn may have given up weed, but she hasn't stopped anything else. Even after a fall last August that put her in the hospital, the Coal Miner's Daughter is still touring, writing songs and releasing records and recently released the new album White Christmas Blue.

"They tell me to rest all the time," Lynn says. "But I'm not tired!"
