NFL Rules For TV Doubleheader Broadcasts

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Have you ever wonder why the CBS NFL broadcast talks about a doubleheader game and you don't see the game on KPIX 5?

NFL "Doubleheader" Sundays are either Fox "doubleheaders" or CBS "doubleheaders" not both (except the last Sunday of the regular NFL season might be a "doubleheader" day for both Fox and CBS. That being said:

There are only two NFL markets in the country that have two teams (The Bay Area and New York). By NFL Rules, a station may not broadcast the second game of a doubleheader if there is a "home" game on at the same time. If CBS 5/KPIX broadcasts a Raider "away" game at 10AM and the 49ers play at home in the afternoon we will be prohibited from airing the second doubleheader game. Again, this is an NFL rule not something the networks work out with each other

For the last half of the NFL season, there is some "flex" scheduling so there may be changes to the CBS Network schedule.
