Girl Suffers Smoke Inhalation, 22 Displaced In Concord Apartment Fire

CONCORD (CBS SF) — A fire at a Concord apartment complex damaged eight units and sent one young girl to the hospital with minor smoke inhalation injuries on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the fire in the 1600 block of Laguna Street a little before 2 p.m. and arrived at the complex to find a heavy fire in several downstairs units, said Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Fire Marshal Robert Marshall.

Two people had to be rescued from an upstairs balcony because the fire had cut off their only avenue of escape.

They were treated for minor injuries at the scene and released, Marshall said.

The five-year-old girl who was taken to the hospital with minor smoke inhalation injuries is expected to recover.

Crews brought the two-alarm fire under control by 2:40 p.m. and investigators are looking into the cause, Marshall said.

The fire damaged units in just one of the complex’s 13 buildings and resulted in the closure of Laguna Street between Adelaide Street and Detroit Avenue.

Contra Costa Fire confirmed that 22 people had been displaced by the fire and that assistance from the Bay Area Red Cross had been requested.

Please help us raise money for the families whose homes were destroyed in this fire and have nowhere to stay for the holidays: http://www.gofundme.com/taxco-fire

    1. It would be interesting to know what stupidity started the fire and how many dopes were stuffed into one apartment that should have had a lot less living there.
When will people learn that working at McDonald’s is not a real job and that living 8+ to a 1-bed room apartment is not safe? Oh wait, idiots never learn.
