MODESTO (KPIX 5) — Ann Coulter spoke in Modesto on Friday evening after cancelling her public speech in Berkeley.
Security was high in the Central Valley city Friday evening before the conservative commentator took the stage.
After weeks of threats, the police were taking no chances.
There were Modesto police, Stockton police, Stanislaus County sheriffs and California Highway Patrol.
Even with a strong police presence, event organizers hired private guards.
Janice Keating, executive director of the Republican Party of Stanislaus County said, “We normally do not have private security. I will tell you that right now and we hired close to 30 private security [guards], either uniformed or non-uniformed, so even if you don’t see them, they’re there.”
As for protesters, they are mostly peaceful and it looks like there are more pro-Coulter and pro-Trump people than those who object to Coulter.
