Golden Gate Bridge Anniversary
Sunny skies and chilly winds greeted the crowds along San Francisco’s waterfront Sunday during the Golden Gate Bridge’s 75th anniversary celebration.
A Golden Gate Bridge District official says ferry service will be in full swing with extra boats for the bridge’s 75th anniversary celebration despite a one-day labor union strike shut down the system on Saturday.
Friday’s festivities unveiling new visitor facilities at the bridge also kicked off a weekend of celebrations marking the crossing’s 75th anniversary.
It took more than engineering ingenuity to build the Golden Gate Bridge, which turns 75 this Sunday. It also took brave men willing to risk their lives, hundreds of feet above the Bay, to build one of the modern wonders of the world.
With the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge set for Sunday, drivers were being reminded to steer clear of the landmark span that evening, when an all-out fireworks show will cause a one-hour traffic shutdown.

Special events are planned over the coming week to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge, with the main event planned for Sunday the 27th. The opening ceremony for the bridge took place on May 27th 1937.
