The United Steelworkers Union called for its refinery workers to stage their largest walkout in more 30 years Sunday, saying its negotiations with Shell Oil Co. broke down less than two weeks after they began.
A health advisory issued because of flaring at the Shell refinery in Martinez Tuesday afternoon has been canceled. A problem occurred at the refinery at about 12:40 p.m., said Randy Sawyer, the agency’s chief environmental health and hazardous materials officer.
The fire was reported around 2:00 p.m. at the refinery on Pacheco Boulevard in Martinez. Shell representative Erin Hallissy said the fire broke out in the light oil processing area, and was extinguished within 10 minutes.
A false alarm was sent out Wednesday morning by Contra Costa Health Services warning Martinez residents that there was an emergency at the Shell refinery.
