Health Advisory Ends After Flaring At Martinez Shell Refinery

A health advisory issued because of flaring at the Shell refinery in Martinez Tuesday afternoon has been canceled. A problem occurred at the refinery at about 12:40 p.m., said Randy Sawyer, the agency’s chief environmental health and hazardous materials officer.

Martinez Shell Refinery Fire Extinguished After Hazmat Response

The fire was reported around 2:00 p.m. at the refinery on Pacheco Boulevard in Martinez. Shell representative Erin Hallissy said the fire broke out in the light oil processing area, and was extinguished within 10 minutes.

Martinez Shell Refinery False Alarm Leads To Sirens, Shelter-In-Place Warning

A false alarm was sent out Wednesday morning by Contra Costa Health Services warning Martinez residents that there was an emergency at the Shell refinery.
