Supreme Court Ruling Jeopardizes Hope To Overturn Affirmative Action Ban At California Public Universities
The effort to overturn California’s ban on affirmative action at state public universities suffered a severe blow with a Supreme Court decision announced on Tuesday.

Preliminary admissions data show that 17,589 Latino students have been accepted as freshmen at one of the University of California’s nine undergraduate campuses for the fall, or 29 percent of all 61,120 in-state applicants who were offered a spot. That compares to 16,378 white residents, who made up 27 percent of the admitted applicants.
Martin replaces Mike Montgomery, who retired last month after six seasons in Berkeley. Martin went 63-41 in three seasons at Tennessee, including a 24-13 mark and an appearance in the regional semifinals of the NCAA tournament this season. He also was previously the coach at Missouri State.
The student, who attended classes the week of March 31, was diagnosed on Friday.
UC Berkeley and the Berkeley city health department have begun contacting people who may have come into contact with a student who’s been diagnosed with the measles.
