Those on a restricted diet know how challenging it can be to find delicious food when dining out. Luckily, the Bay Area has plenty of restaurant options for those following a gluten-free diet. Diners can indulge in everything from sourdough bread and waffles to Chinese food and fish and chips. Here is a list of five of the best gluten-free restaurant menus in the Bay Area.

With five locations throughout the Bay Area, family-friendly Stacks offers a special gluten-free menu. Menu options range from traditional breakfast offerings of omelets and smoothies, to lighter fare like chicken and seafood salads. The gluten-free waffles are not to be missed. Stacks strives to prevent cross-contamination and employs a separate waffle iron for gluten-free waffles. Weekend mornings can be very crowded and calling ahead is recommended for parties larger than six.

Celiacs and those who eat gluten-free flock to all three Asian Box Bay Area locations. The menu is 100-percent gluten and dairy free, so there is no risk of cross-contamination. Inspired by traditional Vietnamese street food, ingredients are locally and sustainably sourced to maximize freshness. Vegetarian and vegan friendly, meal options are entirely customizable and begin with a choice of rices or noodles, topped by a protein and polished off with a selection of sauces and add-ons such as jalapenos, crispy scallions or chopped peanuts.

Located in the heart of downtown Los Gatos, Billy’s Boston Chowder House is a haven for those eating gluten free. Upon request, almost every item on the menu can be prepared gluten free. Gluten-free options include everything from lobster rolls to fish and chips prepared in a dedicated fryer. Recently showcased on the menu is a gluten-free sourdough bread bowl. Billy’s also supports several local community organizations through fund-raising dinners and donations.

Uncle Yu’s At The Vineyard in downtown Livermore is one of three Uncle Yu’s East Bay locations. The upscale restaurant serves up both traditional and more modern Chinese-American cuisine.
