Mommy-and-me classes are a wonderful opportunity to spend some quality one-on-one time with a little one. Available classes can range from music to yoga and can help to boost kids' physical, mental, emotional and social development. Music Together is dedicated to fostering a love of music in children of all ages. It offers special parent participation classes for infant through preschool-age children. The American Swin Academy, with several East Bay locations, holds parent-child classes for babies and toddlers ages three through 36 months. Classes are focused on building water safety and basic swimming skills. A parent or caretaker must be in the water with each child, and small classes have engaged, patient instructors. Kid friendly Yogalayam yoga studio has weekly mommy-and-me yoga classes. While mom does yoga, kids are free to roam, play or participate in the classes. Child caretakers engage the children in calming play with toys such as books, finger puppets, scarves and tea sets. Each class includes a brief snack time with soft music and singing. Yogalayam also offers special post-natal yoga classes in which new moms are welcome to bring their infants.

The Sulphur Creek Nature Center is a wildlife education center that does rescue and rehabilitation of local wildlife. The facility has a discovery center, small library and area for hiking and picnicking. Each month, the center offers a number of parent-participation Toddler Times for children ages one to three. Each class is an affordable $8, and includes crafts, hands-on time with resident animals and outdoor time. Children may have the opportunity to see and pet animals such as the coyote, deer, owl, wild turkey, snake, turtle and guinea pig. General admission to the center is free for non class attendees, but a donation is suggested.

While the majority of Bay Island Gymnastics' programs are geared towards competition and older children, there is a special class for younger kids called Junior Explorers. This mommy-and-me class is designed for kids who have just started walking up through more shy preschoolers who prefer a little parental support before venturing off on their own. Class participants will learn some basic gymnastic moves and develop motor skills, socialization and coordination. The patient, caring staff uses positive encouragement to help tentative children become more enthusiastic and adventurous towards gymnastics.
