You won’t want to miss the moment the San Francisco Bay is studded with even more twinkling lights. The Bay Lights is a light sculpture designed by internationally renowned artist Leo Villareal and will live for two years on the San Francisco Bay Bridge West Span, starting with the Grand Lighting on Tuesday, March 5th at 8:30pm. The Bay Lights can be seen only from the North side of the Bay Bridge, and we’ve suggested some perfect viewing spots to watch this iconic event.

Embarcadero Promenade

While many spots on our list are sure to be snapped up fast, why not throw on some layers and pick a spot amidst the crowds along the public promenade? The Bay Lights will only be on the North West span of the Bay Bridge, so head north from the base of the Bridge, making your way to the Ferry Building. The Pier at the foot of Broadway is ideal, jutting out into the Bay directly before the bridge. Pick up some snacks and hot chocolate at the Ferry Building Marketplace, and watch the celebration with thousands of fellow fans.

Celebrated Chef Charles Phan’s super chic Vietnamese restaurant and bar right along the Embarcadero is a pricey but perfect spot to watch the Bay Lights. Located at the North end of the Ferry Building Marketplace, swing by early and score a seat at the bar. Don’t forget to try one (or two) of the Slanted Door’s legendary Moscow Mules.

Dig into some delicious and fresh Peruvian ceviche as you check out Tuesday’s ceremony. La Mar is a massive restaurant and bar located right along the Embarcadero, and features a spectacular patio with a perfect view of the Bay Bridge. Request an extra basket of plantain chips and settle in for the show.

Starbucks

This classic coffee chain location could not be more perfect for watching Bay Lights ceremony (with a Vanilla Spice Latte.) It’s a bit tricky to find, however, especially as there seems to be a Starbucks on every block. Head to the Ferry Building and walk North (towards Pier 39.) Starbucks is located one pier down, very close to the Slanted Door. A few benches and tables live just outside and provide a terrific low-cost way to catch the ceremony.

View Lounge
Marriott Marquis Hotel
55 4th Street
San Francisco, CA
(415) 896-1600

Why not head over to the West side of Treasure Island, park the car, and snuggle up with THE best views of the Bay Bridge and San Francisco. Treasure Island doesn’t offer much in the way of shopping and dining, but save a few dollars and pack a picnic. Don’t forget the ‘Bridge Mix.’
