Protesters Appear in Court

OAKLAND, Calif. (KCBS) Several of the protesters who were arrested in Oakland last Thursday night following the civil unrest in the city appeared in an Alameda County courtroom on Monday.

Alameda County Chief Assistant District Attorney Kevin Dunleavy said that about 16 of those who were arrested had their cases reviewed by the DA's office on Monday after police filed felony charges.

"It's my understanding from talking to the charging deputy that a couple of individuals have been charged with attempted arson," said Dunleavy. "There's another couple of individuals that have been charged with commercial burglary and arson."

Dunleavy said about 50-60 people were arrested, processed and released on misdemeanor charges Thursday evening.

Those cases will be reviewed by the DA's office in the coming days and if the district attorney decides to pursue charges, those people will be arraigned over the next couple of weeks.
