Good Question: How Does Tim Lincecum Throw A Baseball So Hard?

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) – Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum might not have the prettiest delivery in baseball, but it's been good enough to win the Cy Young award twice. Larry in San Francisco asked this Good Question: How does Tim Lincecum throw a baseball so hard?

ANSWER: David Barker with the SF Exploratorium said Lincecum's pitching motion is similar to a 3-stage booster rocket. Lincecum is able to propel the ball past 90 mph by using a series of moves that begin with his legs and travels to the tip of his fingers. Technically it is called, "sequential summation of motion."
