Riley To Remain Cal's Starting Quarterback

BERKELEY (AP) - California coach Jeff Tedford is open to making changes to kickstart his sputtering team. Benching quarterback Kevin Riley isn't one of them.

Tedford says he hasn't lost faith in Riley. He also realizes the Golden Bears, off to their worst start since 2003, don't have many other options at this point.

Cal (3-3, 1-2 Pac-10) hosts Arizona State (3-3, 1-2) on Saturday in a matchup of teams trying to climb out of the conference cellar and keep their dimming postseason hopes alive.

Riley has been the target of increased criticism after a fast start for the senior quarterback morphed into a monthlong slump. He threw two costly interceptions in last week's 48-14 loss to USC, leading some to call for a change. Tedford is resisting.
