San Francisco Poll Worker Steals Up To 75 Ballots, Flees
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The director of elections in San Francisco said a polling inspector made off with up to 75 ballots, a voting roster and other election materials in a bizarre heist.
John Arntz said Tuesday that around 4 p.m. a polling inspector broke into the ballot-counting machine, scooped up the ballots and stole a memory pack that records information from the ballots.
He also stole the cell phone of a teenage poll worker.
Arntz says police and sheriff's officials know the poll worker's name and are investigating the theft.
A call to a police spokesman after business hours was not immediately returned.
