(KCBS) _ Traffic congestion around the Bay Area continues to be a challenge for commuters.

Many who are looking to stay off the roads have turned to BART as an alternative.

BART General Manager Dorothy Dugger said ridership is over 300,000, even with the Bay Area’s struggling economy.

She said expansion plans remain on track for several projects that are in the works for the transit system.
