Cheryl Burke To Host Studio Expansion Party

MOUNTAIN VIEW (BCN) - Peninsula residents with happy feet can shuffle over to a Mountain View dance studio tonight to rub elbows with famous dancers including Cheryl Burke of "Dancing with the Stars." Burke, who owns a studio at 1400 N. Shoreline Blvd., is holding a party on Monday, January 10th, 2011 to celebrate the studio's expansion to 14,100 square feet and to promote a partnership with the city to bring dance to local youths.

The partnership, called "Dance Club Mountain View," was developed by Cheryl Burke Dance and the Mountain View Police Activities League and will serve students ages 11 to 18 in local school districts. Participating youths will learn dances ranging from hip-hop to Latin and swing. Classes begin Thursday and will take place at the Mountain View Sports Pavilion on Castro Street. Funds raised tonight will help support the program. Burke, who also stars in "Forever Tango," will give a tango performance tonight with several of her cast members from the popular musical, including her partner Ezequiel Lopez Hudyma.

Police chief and Police Activities League president Scott Vermeer is expected to attend, as are outgoing Mayor Ronit Bryant and incoming Mayor Jac Siegel. The celebration begins at 7:30 p.m., and admission is $29. Prior to the main event, "Forever Tango" dancers will give special Argentine tango workshops starting at 6 p.m.
