Traffic Stop Turns Violent In Daly City

DALY CITY (BCN, KCBS) -- Daly City police shot and injured a woman who they said backed her car towards an officer Saturday night.

San Francisco Police Officer Albie Esparza said the incident happened around 7 p.m. on Carrizall Drive at Geneva near the Cow Palace.

The woman driving the car accelerated away from the officers, colliding into a nearby home, Esparza said. A male passenger was also inside the vehicle, he added.

After crashing into the home, Esparza said that the woman reversed the vehicle toward police, striking an officer.

Police then opened fire on the vehicle and struck the driver, Esparza said.

The woman was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life threatening injuries and her male passenger was taken into custody, Esparza said.

The extent of the officer's injuries remains unknown.

Esparza said that, although the car was traveling on San Francisco streets, the Daly City Police Department attempted to conduct the traffic stop because the area borders the San Mateo County line.

The San Francisco Police Department's homicide unit and the San Francisco District Attorney's Office are investigating the officer-involved shooting.

The Daly City Police Department is handling the administrative investigation, Esparza said.
