Good Question: How Are Weather Graphics Created?

(CBS 5) – During the newscast, they tell you if you should pack an umbrella or wear sunglasses. In this Good Question: How do we create the graphics and animation for the weathercast?

ANSWER: The weather graphics and animation used at CBS 5 are all custom made each day. According to weather producer Billy Poon, charts, models and satellite images are used along with radar data and then rendered through special software to produce a sort of "weather movie." Poon said despite all the computer technology, the meteorology is still gathered and put together by humans who must ultimately make the call on a forecast.
