South San Francisco Man Struck, Killed On Hwy 101

PALO ALTO (CBS SF) -- A man who was struck and killed on southbound U.S. Highway 101 in Palo Alto early Wednesday morning has been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office as 63-year-old Sidney Brown.

Brown, a resident of South San Francisco, was either standing or attempting to cross the freeway near Oregon Expressway when at about 2:50 a.m. a Honda Civic struck him in the No. 2 lane, according to California Highway Patrol Sgt. Paul McCarthy.

McCarthy said the impact caused Brown to fly over the hood of the car, through the windshield and land in the passenger seat of the Civic.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Civic, a 71-year-old San Jose man, suffered minor lacerations on his hand. He was not cited or arrested.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision, McCarthy said.
