SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Former New York Giants receiver and Super Bowl hero Plaxico Burress is out of prison after serving two years on a weapons charge. He has said he wants to play in the NFL again.

John Madden told the KCBS morning crew he expects to see Burress on the field again this season.

“As long as a guy can play, as long as he still has something in him, there is a team among the 32 that will sign him,” Madden said. “Plaxico Burress is a big play guy… I’m sure that someone is going to sign him, and it’s going to be someone that has a good quarterback, a veteran quarterback… and needs help right away.”

Madden said it will be easier to come back as a receiver when compared to Michael Vick’s return from prison.

“Coming out of jail and playing quarterback is ten times tougher,” said the former coach.

Also, Tiger Woods is injured and won’t be playing in the U.S. Open this week. Among those expected to compete for the title is Steve Stricker.

“I couldn’t pick Steve Stricker out of a crowd,” Madden said. “Sometimes when you get a player so dominant like Tiger was, everyone else kind of becomes blended.”

Madden said the field is wide open like it was before Tiger Woods soared to number one in the rankings.

The morning crew also asked Madden his opinion on the best sports fan bargain around. Madden said it’s college baseball.

“You don’t have to fight crowds, you don’t have lines, you don’t have expenses, and it’s great competition,” he said.

Both Stanford and Cal made it to post-season play this year, and Cal advanced to the College World Series, which starts this weekend in Omaha.
