San Jose Small Business Owners Learn The Power Of Social Media

SAN JOSE (KCBS) – Dozens of small business owners flocked to San Jose city hall Thursday to learn how to grow their businesses using social media.

Many entrepreneurs in attendance were like Karen Midlo, who had underestimated the growth of social media.

"When Facebook came out I thought it was just going to be a thing of the past – wrong!" said Midlo. "So I need to learn how to Twitter and Facebook, and all the other things, so that I can be right there with the rest of the population."

KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:

"We think of Facebook as something that's been around for awhile because it's so well-known, but in reality Facebook is still new, and so is social media, so there's a lot of experimentation still to be done in this field, so it's very exciting," said Luke Hohmann, CEO of the Innovation Games Company, which designs apps for small businesses.

Experts at the conference said that as the economy recovers, those companies with a strong on-line presence are likely to bounce back more quickly.
