Good Question: What Makes Our Hair Turn Gray?
(CBS 5) – Some of us fight this event in our lives, while others just let it happen. In this Good Question: What makes our hair turn gray as we age?
ANSWER: According to Dr. Vic Narukar, our hair turns gray when we stop producing melanin, the compound that puts color in our hair. It can occur at different rates in different people depending on heredity. Heavy smoking and thyroid problems can cause gray hair, but science admits it still doesn't know why we stop producing melanin as we age.
