50/50 (R)

50/50 stars an actor I’ve never warmed up to Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but his “normalness”, his blandness really works. It’s a beautiful, touching story about a young man diagnosed with cancer, so he’s the anchor of this film. His life is turned upside-down, but finds the humor with his best friend, played by Seth Rogan (also a co-producer), who gives an Oscar-worthy performance. Also starring Bryce-Dallas Howard and Anna Kendrick, this true story of Will Reiser’s own struggle with cancer is beautifully done and reminds us of the human spirit. That you can laugh and smile through our tears. It’s a touching film and so worthy of 4 hats.
