Judge Dismisses Claims In Intel Antitrust Lawsuit
SANTA CLARA (CBS/AP) - A federal judge is dismissing several claims against Intel in an antitrust lawsuit filed by New York's attorney general.
The suit alleges that Intel Corp., based in Santa Clara, paid billions in kickbacks to computer makers so that it could dominate the microprocessor market, and that it retaliated against manufacturers who did business with competitors.
The Delaware judge dismissed claims the attorney general's office had filed in what it said was a "parental" role on behalf of individual computer purchasers, saying there was no express statutory authority for the state to bring those claims.
The judge also tossed claims involving computer purchases before November 2006, saying Delaware's three-year time restriction, not New York's longer statute of limitations, should apply.
The case is scheduled for trial on Feb. 14.
