(CBS SF) – The starting lineup for a so-called “meaningless” Cactus League game involving the San Francisco Giants on Friday had two names that were sparking some buzz: Freddy Sanchez and Buster Posey.

“That’s why a lot of these things that are called meaningless really aren’t meaningless,” John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. “I mean, there’s little subplots in each thing, someone trying to make a team, someone trying to become the last starter, someone trying to become utility infield, someone coming back from injury.”

“And then when that someone is Buster Posey,” Madden continued, “you know it may be meaningless in terms of score, may be meaningless to others, but I tell you one thing, it’s not meaningless to the Giants organization, to Buster Posey or his family.”
