SACRAMENTO (CBS/AP) — Kalyn Simon and Emily Dinger each scored 16 points as Archbishop Mitty of San Jose held off J.W. North of Riverside, 56-54, to win the California girls’ Division II championship at Power Balance Pavilion Friday.

Mitty (28-5) was the heavy favorite over upstart J. W. North, which was 4-21 last season but finished this year 30-6. North, however, couldn’t overcome the Monarchs’ depth. Kelli Hayes had 13 points and Amanda Lovely had 12 rebounds for Mitty, which eventually wore down the Huskies.
