Tech Report: Will You Be Taking the Digital Detox?

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- A national day of unplugging began at sunset on Friday and people are being asked to pledge at Sabbathmanifesto.org that they will take a digital detox until the sun goes down again on Saturday.

It's hard to imagine completely getting rid of your cell phone or not checking email, but the reasons for this digital fast are understandable.

A lot of people are obsessed with technology and are spending large amounts of time with their gadgets.

KCBS Tech Report:

This event happens to coincide with the Jewish Sabbath and, as many know, it can be a good thing to take some time off to contemplate, spend more real-life, physical time with family and friends.

Technology often drives us and controls much of our lives.

So often we see young people especially out in public and at restaurants, and they're staring at iPhone or smart phone screens rather than interacting with each other.

Maybe they were texting the people at the opposite end of the table. Who knows?
