Longtime Santa Clara VTA Employee From Tracy Goes Missing

TRACY (CBS 5) -- A search is underway for a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority employee who vanished on his commute home from work on Thursday.

63-year-old Ray Halsell, a VTA supervisor, left work in San Jose Thursday afternoon for his home in Tracy, relatives and co-workers said.

According to Shiela Halsell, his wife of 36 years, Ray is a punctual and reliable person. Police were contacted after he didn't arrive home Thursday.

Relatives have retraced his commute along Interstates 680, 580 and 205, but have not found any sign of him. He is also known to take Highway 84, Patterson Pass Road and Corral Hollow Road as shortcuts. The California Highway Patrol did not find Halsell during their search of the mountainous roads Friday.

Shiela Halsell said her husband is a diabetic who requires oral medication twice a day.

Ray Halsell was last seen driving a 2001 green Honda Accord sedan, with California license plate number 4SYG711.

Anyone with information related to Halsell's disappearance is asked to contact the Tracy Police Department.
