3 Missing Oakland Children Found Safe, Search Continues For 4th

OAKLAND (KCBS) – Oakland police said that three of four children reported missing on Tuesday have been found safely in Stanislaus County on Wednesday.

At about 10:00 p.m. Monday night, Oakland police were called to a home on the 900 block of 63rd Street by a babysitter, who said a three-year-old boy was unresponsive after being found face-down in a tub.

KCBS' Anna Duckworth Reports:

Oakland Police Spokeswoman officer Johnna Watson said investigators quickly came to doubt her story.

"His injuries, there was clear evidence that he has past physical abuse injuries and he has current physical abuse injuries," said Watson. "These injuries are very significant."

The three-year-old remains in critical condition.

The babysitter, stepfather and mother have all been taken into custody in connection with the case.

Watson said that police soon discovered four other children – ages 4, 6, 7 and 16 – all of whom were missing. Fearing they may be at risk, the department put out a call for help.

"We received information at about 6:15 this morning from the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department," Watson said. "One of the relatives does have the three younger children and they are in healthy, good condition."

Authorities are still looking for 16-year-old Alyajah Johnson and are asking anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact police.
