High-Speed Chase On Bay Bridge Ends In Crash, Gunfire

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- An Oakland man on parole for human trafficking is in custody on suspicion of DUI and weapons charges following a high-speed crash and shooting on the lower deck of the Bay Bridge early Thursday morning, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

Antonio Roberson, 29, remains at a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening following the 2 a.m. crash at the S-curve, east of Treasure Island, CHP Officer Michael Ferguson said.

A shooting followed the crash, but Ferguson said no other information about the incident was being released yet because of the ongoing investigation.

KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports:

Roberson and a 26-year-old woman from Australia who was in the car were taken to a hospital with injuries from the crash. The woman had been released as of Thursday afternoon, Ferguson said.

Roberson was on parole for false imprisonment for the purpose of human trafficking, and was expected to be booked on the DUI and weapons charges once he was released from the hospital, according to Ferguson.

The investigation into the crash and shooting shut down lanes and snarled eastbound traffic on the bridge for most of the morning. All lanes were back open by 10 a.m., CHP Officer James Evans said.

San Francisco police homicide inspectors were assisting the CHP in the investigation into the shooting, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.
