San Leandro Shooting Leaves Police Searching For Gunman, Victim

SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- Police were searching for the suspect and victim involved in a shooting in the parking lot of 24 Hour Fitness in San Leandro Sunday evening.

Police responded to a shooting in progress at 15555 East 14th St. at 6:18 p.m. but the victim and suspect had already fled the scene.

Witnesses near the 24 Hour Fitness told police that the suspect shot at the victim multiple times with a semi-automatic handgun, before running towards the Bayfair Bay Area Rapid Transit station, situated less than a block from the 24 Hour Fitness.

Officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect, described by witnesses to be a black male in his 20s, wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap.

The victim also fled the scene and police do not know if he sustained injuries. Witnesses described the victim as a black male wearing a light colored shirt, police said.

Police checked for the victim at nearby hospitals, but met with negative results.
