Hit & Run Crash Into East Palo Alto Home Barely Misses Baby

EAST PALO ALTO (KCBS) – It was a very close call early Thursday morning for a family in East Palo Alto, after a car crashed into a house and the room where they were sleeping.

The crash happened around 5:00 a.m. as a black Cadillac drove across the front lawn of a house on Cooley Avenue before plowing into the side of another home.

Sarah Gutierrez was sleeping with her son and two-month-old baby when the crash occurred.

"I woke up to a car in our room. The headlights were shining on us and I had to throw pieces of the wall off of us to get my baby and my son," she said. "My little brother ran through the laundry room to get to our room and he had to tear the door off to let us out."

KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:

No one was injured in the incident.

A gas line that was damaged in the crash was quickly shut off by the Menlo Park Fire Protection District, Carson said.

There were at least three people in the car at the time of the crash and David Carson with the East Palo Alto Police Department said they fled from the scene.

"The investigation is ongoing. We've got some leads to follow and hopefully, we'll turn up something," he said.

Police said there are no initial signs that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
