Suspect Arrested In Monterey County Home Invasion

MONTEREY (CBS SF) -- A San Ardo man was arrested early Sunday morning in Merced in connection with a home invasion robbery in unincorporated Monterey County Tuesday, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

Alfonso Salazar, 33, is suspected of committed a home robbery in the 62000 block of Center Street in San Ardo Tuesday, sheriff's officials said.

Officials said Salazar, a three-time convicted felon, shot the male victim with a sawed-off shotgun in the chest before fleeing the scene.

The victim was transported to San Jose Regional Hospital and is in critical condition.

An investigation led Monterey County deputies and investigators to issue a felony arrest warrant for attempted murder to Salazar.

After being informed of the arrest warrant, Merced police executed a search warrant of a hotel room Salazar had rented and arrested him without incident, sheriff's officials said.

Police confiscated a loaded sawed-off shotgun and ammunition during the search.

Salazar waived extradition and was transported to Monterey County Jail and booked on suspicion of attempted murder and multiple weapons charges, sheriff's officials said.
