Ex-Novato Detective Suspected Of Stealing Drugs

NOVATO (CBS / AP) -- Prosecutors say a former Novato detective who worked for the Marin County drug squad is suspected of stealing narcotics that were supposed to be destroyed.

District Attorney Ed Berberian confirmed his office is conducting a criminal investigation into the actions of Jehan "J.J." Amdjadi, an eight-year member of the Novato Police Department.

The Marin Independent Journal reports the 35-year-old Amdjadi is suspected of using the stolen drugs or supplying them to other people.

The allegations were revealed Tuesday during a court hearing in a murder case in which Amdjadi was the lead detective. Attorneys for four convicted men are seeking information to impeach Amdjadi's credibility and possibly demand a new trial.

Amdjadi attorney Alison Berry Wilkinson said she can't comment on the allegations because the matter is under seal.
