San Jose Tops List For Most Job Growth

SAN JOSE (KCBS) – San Jose is at the top of a list of the top 10 metropolitan areas with the best post-recession job growth.

The San Jose metro area, which includes Sunnyvale and Santa Clara, has added over 63,000 jobs since 2010, a 7 percent growth.

The survey by CareerBuilder put San Jose at the top of the list of metro areas with the most job growth from 2010 to 2012.

KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:

Ted Corona of San Jose said the area is a good spot to find a job – if you have the qualifications.

"You see a lot of work here. I think some is coming back and some is kind of weak," he said. "I see work in engineering and aerospace."

The survey found that the industry with the best job growth is Internet publishing and broadcasting and web search portals, with more than 28,000 jobs added since 2010.

Michael Irwin from CareerBuilder said overall, job creation in the U.S. is on an upward trajectory.

"Companies across the country are bringing people in, even if it's only on a temporary basis and hopefully transitioning them into more full-time," Irwin said. "As we see the unemployment rate come down, it's good news across the country."

Houston, Austin, Detroit and Salt Lake City rounded out the top five on the list. San Francisco, which includes Oakland and Fremont, came in at number nine.
