GALT (CBS/AP) –  Galt police have released the name of the officer who was shot and killed by a suspect after responding to a report of a burglary Tuesday.

Galt police Lt. Jim Uptegrove said Officer Kevin Tonn was fatally shot during what he described as a physical altercation with the suspect around 11:30 a.m.

The 35-year-old Tonn was shot once by the suspect. He died after being taken to a hospital. Initially Galt police had said Tonn was 31.

Uptegrove said the suspect then turned the gun on himself and “inflicted one fatal gunshot on himself.”

The name of the suspect has not been released.
