SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— The world’s largest trade show for those in the gaming industry is underway in San Francisco at the 2013 Game Developers Conference (GDC) is at the Moscone Center.

First I thought I’d mention that Bally’s— the casino slot machine company is hiring 100 developers and are at the GDC looking for talent. But I found that the highest demographic of people that are going to be there are smartphone game developers.

40 percent of the attendees have said that that’s a major focus for them whereas console games only got 37 percent of the attention. So that shows a shift in where the interest is headed as well as where the jobs are going.

There are some new developers with the paradigm shift, but Electronic Arts still has a strong presence in the gaming world as well as some of the other traditional developers.

28 percent of attendees said games on social networks is an item they are focused on.
