THE SAPPHIRES (PG-13)

It’s 1968. Four young, talented Australian girls join forces with the help of an alcoholic manager and form a Motown group. Chris O’Dowd recognizes their talent, though their own country responds with racism and contempt because they are Aboriginal.

This musical “dramady” works on every level, with characters and situations you connect with and care about. Do not leave until the final credits. It’s inspiring to know that this is a true story, co-written by one of the Sapphire’s children. Find out what happened to these remarkable girls after the songs were sung.
