PETALUMA (CBS SF) -- Police in Petaluma arrested a Sunnyvale man for brandishing a firearm during a confrontation at a Denny's restaurant Sunday morning.

Officers responded to reports of an armed man at the Denny's located at 4986 Petaluma Blvd. North at about 2:05 a.m., according to Petaluma police.

Witnesses said a group of six friends were sitting at a table when they were approached by the suspect, who was later identified as 35-year-old Thomas Hart, police said.

Hart allegedly walked up and laid a large knife and firearm on the table, police said. He reportedly told the victims he found their conversation disrespectful.

He then picked up his weapons and left the area.

With the assistance of K-9 Officer Farinha, responding police located Hall at a nearby motel on Montero Way.

The weapons he brandished during the confrontation were confiscated.

The suspect was booked into Sonoma County Jail.
