4 Girls Injured By Falling Traffic Signal Pole In SF Mission

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Four young girls were injured in San Francisco's Mission District on Monday evening when a big-rig struck a traffic signal pole, which fell and hit them.

The accident was reported about 7:15 p.m. at 24th Street and South Van Ness Avenue.

The big-rig driver was turning onto 24th Street when a car came into his path, causing him to cut his turn short and hit the traffic signal pole, according to police.

The pole fell and injured four girls, ages 9, 11, 12 and 14. The girls were taken to San Francisco General Hospital and their injuries—which included a broken leg and arm lacerations—are not considered life-threatening, police said.
