Gunman Fires Into Car In East Oakland, Boy Hospitalized

OAKLAND (CBS SF) — A boy was sent to the hospital after the car he was riding in was shot at Tuesday afternoon in Oakland's Fruitvale neighborhood.

Authorities said a gunman fired into an Acura Integra with a man, woman and two children inside on the 1500 block of 27th Avenue around 4:45 p.m.

Police initially reported one person was hit by gunfire; however it appears only the child was injured by shattered glass, Oakland police Officer Johnna Watson said.

It appears no one was hit by bullets, Watson said.

The child, identified as a five-year-old boy, was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition, Watson said. A woman who lives in a nearby house got a towel and applied pressure to the boy before paramedics arrived.

Witnesses told KCBS the shooter was seen driving away in a white Dodge Durango. No suspects have been arrested as of Tuesday night.
