OAKLAND (CBS / AP / BCN) – Three people have been detained following an armed robbery of casual carpoolers waiting for a ride to work in Oakland.

Police said it happened just after 9:00 a.m. on Hudson Street beneath Highway 24 in the Rockridge neighborhood.

Several people were waiting for a ride when three people, one armed with a gun, approached and were robbed of personal items and electronic devices, according to Oakland Police spokeswoman Johnna Watson.

Based on witness descriptions, officers detained a possible suspect vehicle and three occupants, said Watson. No one was hurt.

The three people detained have not been identified.

Dan Kalb, the city councilman who represents the area, calls the robberies “brazen” and has asked police to station officers near the casual carpool area.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Oakland police investigators at (510) 238-3326.
